From an early age, art was all around me. My mother invited artists to the Lytse Slot in Friesland - the house where we lived. She organized exhibitions, collected folk art and crafts, there was talking, experimentation, making. That liveliness, that exchange, shaped me.
In my mid-twenties I moved to Amsterdam, where I went to work at the Royal Palace. Since then, art has become my work, but also my way of seeing and living. I still live there now, with my family.
What has stayed with me all these years: art is not an island. It is only truly alive when it mixes with the everyday - with people, places, moments.
As a curator and advisor, I work on projects in which that exchange is central. Not as an abstract idea, but as a concrete experience: art that touches you because it dares to mix with the here and now.
Currently I work at the Oude Kerk, inviting contemporary artists to create new work in a place full of history. I've also been giving new direction to Welcome Stranger since 2020: a meandering series of temporary artworks on rooftops, facades of artists' homes - in the capillaries of the city.
In addition, I advise for the Mondriaan Fund and am active as an expert and evaluator within the cultural sector.
